Our story

The Appleflats story began in the summer of 1993, when the parents of company founders Glen and Alex Smyth, along with an aunt and uncle, finished building a house on their newly purchased farmer’s field and planted a crabapple tree in the front yard to celebrate this milestone.

A crabapple was chosen because of beautiful blossoms in the spring. Over the years, as Glen and Alex grew, so did the tree. Soon the tree bore fruit and they harvested it each year as a family event before school started.

In 2013, Glen called a local restaurant to see if they would be interested in buying some jam and that restaurant gladly bought everything that one tree could produce, sparking the idea behind Appleflats. The first commercial harvest occurred in August 2016, and the business began in earnest.

Today thousands of people enjoy Appleflats crabapple jelly and cocktail mix products. All of our apples are still hand-picked and we avoid the use of pesticides and herbicides. We are proud to produce products with simple ingredients, using no artificial colours or sweeteners.
